Heshang Gong (also Ho-Shang Kung) is the reputed author of one of the earliest commentaries on the Tao Te Ching of Laozi to survive to modern times, which is dated to the latter part of the Han dynasty.
This work presents a translation and annotation of Ho-Shang-Kung's commentary on Lao-Tse, focusing on interpretations of fundamental Taoist concepts such as strength, weakness, and the nature of existence. It emphasizes the value of non-violence and simplicity as key tenets for attaining harmony with Tao.
